In June 2021, General Electric Co. and Safran SA announced a renewed collaboration to develop technology for a new generation of jet engines, potentially powering single-aisle aircraft by the mid-2020s and promising a fuel consumption reduction of over 20%.
In April 2022, Safran Electrical & Power, a division of Safran SA, partnered with AURA AERO (France), a manufacturer of digital and environmentally friendly aircraft, to collaborate on electric propulsion systems for two different aircraft: the INTEGRAL E training aircraft and the ERA (Electric Regional Aircraft). Collins will deliver an advanced EPGS leveraging leading commercial technology, replacing the 70-year-old system on the B-52 with a more efficient solution that reduces engine power consumption. Deliveries are set to begin in 2023, contributing to the Air Force's goals of achieving a 30% increase in fuel economy for the B-52 and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
