Unmanned Sea System Industry Developments

In August 2022, the United States Navy revealed its intentions to develop and acquire three varieties of unmanned vehicles: Large Unmanned Surface Vehicles (LUSVs), Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicles (MUSVs), and Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (XLUUVs). The Navy's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2023 included a request for USD 549.3 million in research and development funds for the design, development, and construction of these vehicles.

In July 2022, Oceaneering International Ltd. announced that its Subsea Robotics segment had secured a multi-year service contract to support Petrobras projects off the coast of Brazil. The contract entails providing survey and Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) services for AKOFS Offshore's subsea equipment. The scope of work includes supplying two work class ROVs, ROV personnel for simultaneous operations, tooling packages for each ROV, and survey equipment and personnel.
